In addition to fantastic kiteboarding (which is my main passion if the winds blowing), Corpus Christi offers world class windsurfing. If the wind is less than 20 MPH and I’ve got the day off I’ll grab my stick and head to central Corpus' most popular launch, Oleander Point. I park at a small grassy pull out in the south part of Cole Park where Oleander Street ends at Ocean Drive. The launch spot is really for the intermediate to advanced riders. This area offers a fantastic bump-and-jump spot. However, you’ve got to know how to jib and skills doing deep-water starts is almost mandatory. The launch is easy with waist to chest deep water for 75 to 100 yards out over a sandy bottom. After that, the depth is 6 feet or more. The only hazards here are the rocky beach and occasional jellyfish. I’ve gotten stung more then once so be careful. I’d recommend Oleander to anyone.
